Location of Russell Island

Russell Island is the largest of the Southern Moreton Bay Island group. Brisbane CBD is 39k to the northeast and Surfers Paradise is 32k south.
The opening to the South Pacific Ocean between North Stradbroke Island and South Stradbroke Island is 8kms to the southeast of Russell Island. This beautiful area is called Jumpinpin. It is good for camping and great fishing. Further south is easy access to the northern half of the Gold Coast via the Broadwater, and onto the Nerang River and the canal system. On a good day you could get from Surfers Paradise to the southern end of Russell Island in just over 30 minutes by boat.
